Welcome to the one-hundred thirty-ninth issue of Love dA Lit! :squee: Every Sunday this article will aim to promote volunteer opportunities, various resources, prompts, challenges, and workshops, as well as highlighting various contests, and spotlighting a specific group or project for two weeks. This is by no means a complete list of all the literature going-ons, merely a tool to help you get involved and stay informed.

Group Spotlight

:spotlight-left: :iconlearn2crit-lit: :spotlight-right:

Small is never a bad thing when it comes to groups and Learn2Crit-Lit is no exception. This group is all about teaching people to critique and/or proofread literature. This is a place where anyone is welcome, whether you've just started out or you've been around a few times and want to pas son some knowledge. Click here to learn a little more about this group's admins.

MagicalJoey was amazing enough to let me ask her a few questiosn regarding Learn2Crit-Lit! :eager:

:star:Can you explain a bit about your group, Learn2Crit-Lit, and what makes it different from other literature groups on dA?
:bulletblue: Learn2Crit-Lit is a group where hopefully critics can come and sharpen some skills, and also a place where potential critics can practice and receive encouragement and feedback from the admins as well as the group members who are more 'senior' in terms of critiquing. It is different because it is a teaching group, not a group where you can place your work and expect someone else to work on it or just for glory. It is a place where you can come to learn, or practice, both in a group or one-on-one.

:star:What prompted you to create the group?
:bulletblue: I run two critique groups, GrammarNaziCritiques and SuperWritersHelp and am always having to advertise everywhere for anyone who wants to join the critic team. I thought that perhaps 'training' people would make them less 'scared' of volunteering because they now 'knew what they were doing' in a sense. It was created out of a spirit of imparting knowledge and helping people discover that, yes, they have this ability and it's not just limited to the 'big names' on DA.

:star:What kind of future projects and events can we expect from Learn2Crit-Lit?
:bulletblue: At the moment I have an open challenge, where there is a piece of poetry and a piece of prose anyone can critique. In the future, depending on membership and interaction, I would post a piece of poetry and prose and have people note me critiques in a 'competition' with an impartial 3rd party judge and the best critique would be featured ect.

:star:Do you have any advice for those new to critiquing?
:bulletblue: Don't be afraid to give your opinion if it is different to what someone else has said. It is your opinion - the author can take it or lose it.
:bulletblue: Don't be disappointed if you get no response from an author.
:bulletblue:Know that some authors will not like what you have to say, don't start a fight it's not worth it.
:bulletblue: Believe in yourself and the talents you have. If you can write you can point out mistakes, if you can do that you can work up to a critique/constructive comment. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.

:star:Anything else of note that you would like to share?
:bulletblue: The thing that holds us back the most is fear. Fear of taking the risk and being rejected/laughed at/etc.
:bulletblue: There is a story of two seeds. The first seed decided to risk it all and sent its roots deep into the soil and its stem high into the sky. The second seed was afraid to risk. "What if something goes wrong?" One day a chicken pecking for food found the second seed and ate it.
Which seed are you?
