MagicalJoey was amazing enough to let me ask her a few questiosn regarding Learn2Crit-Lit!
Can you explain a bit about your group, Learn2Crit-Lit, and what makes it different from other literature groups on dA?
Learn2Crit-Lit is a group where hopefully critics can come and sharpen some skills, and also a place where potential critics can practice and receive encouragement and feedback from the admins as well as the group members who are more 'senior' in terms of critiquing. It is different because it is a teaching group, not a group where you can place your work and expect someone else to work on it or just for glory. It is a place where you can come to learn, or practice, both in a group or one-on-one.
What prompted you to create the group?
I run two critique groups, GrammarNaziCritiques and SuperWritersHelp and am always having to advertise everywhere for anyone who wants to join the critic team. I thought that perhaps 'training' people would make them less 'scared' of volunteering because they now 'knew what they were doing' in a sense. It was created out of a spirit of imparting knowledge and helping people discover that, yes, they have this ability and it's not just limited to the 'big names' on DA.
What kind of future projects and events can we expect from Learn2Crit-Lit?
At the moment I have an open challenge, where there is a piece of poetry and a piece of prose anyone can critique. In the future, depending on membership and interaction, I would post a piece of poetry and prose and have people note me critiques in a 'competition' with an impartial 3rd party judge and the best critique would be featured ect.
Do you have any advice for those new to critiquing?
Don't be afraid to give your opinion if it is different to what someone else has said. It is your opinion - the author can take it or lose it.
Don't be disappointed if you get no response from an author.
Know that some authors will not like what you have to say, don't start a fight it's not worth it.
Believe in yourself and the talents you have. If you can write you can point out mistakes, if you can do that you can work up to a critique/constructive comment. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
Anything else of note that you would like to share?
The thing that holds us back the most is fear. Fear of taking the risk and being rejected/laughed at/etc.
There is a story of two seeds. The first seed decided to risk it all and sent its roots deep into the soil and its stem high into the sky. The second seed was afraid to risk. "What if something goes wrong?" One day a chicken pecking for food found the second seed and ate it.
Which seed are you?

Checking In
It's been quite a while since my last journal entry, about five years. I hope whoever is reading this knows I've never forgotten anyone and I think of all the friends I made here with such love and joy. I'm not sure how many people still linger on DA, but I hope that if you somehow stumble back to my page you know that I love you and wish you well. There is simply too much to go over for the span of five years, so I'll keep it short and sweet. I love you and I missed you. I don't write quite as much as I used to, but I've started dabbling more often again and was thinking of posting once more. I'm terribly out of practice, but it's something that's always been cathartic so it doesn't matter too much to me how "good" it is. Sometimes you just have to get the feelings out. Anyways, I hope you are having a wonderfully lovely day, my lovelies. How about some questions! What's your current favorite song? A video game you can't stop playing? TV show or movie you wish everyone else would
Renewal
It has been a rough few years for myself and my family. It is strange to think that for once in my adult life that I am legitimately doing well, not pretending or being close but not quite there. Things are almost infinitely better than 6 months ago and, if I'm honest, it feels like that was years ago. DA has always been a home and as I've slowly gotten better I find myself missing it and all the friends I've made more and more. I know I do not elaborate much on my personal life, but perhaps now that so much is behind me I can allow myself to discuss it more. In truth, I'm not even sure where to begin, but updating on what happened in the la
Birthdays and Change
I wanted to thank all the lovelies who wished me happy birthday recently, I read all your comments and it made me extremely happy. ♥ It was nice to hop on and see that I was thought of, I truly appreciate it beyond words.
However, I know have been very absent for a few months now. Things have not be going well in my life for the majority of the year (and if I'm honest the last 2 years) now and I have had to put DA on the back burner. I still find myself coming to the site, reading comments/replies, looking at deviations, but currently I am overwhelmed by everything that I can't bring myself to do much else.
I find myself now on the pr
